My cup runneth over! Keeping up with all of the Tomb Raider news at the moment is a difficult task, with multiple stories dropping on a daily basis. However, this little piece is particularly exciting… Square Enix has announced that a special Tomb Raider board game is going to be launching in Q1 2019. Titled Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game, the title promises to allow players to “wake the adventurer in you.” Intriguing!

At the moment, information about the new Tomb Raider board game is scant. The promotional imagery re-uses concept art from 2007’s Tomb Raider Anniversary, namely the famous Peruvian caves, so it would seem as if Square Enix is creating something in the more ‘traditional’ Lara Croft vein.

Also, just to throw everyone into a frenzy of confusion, Square Enix has taken the spin-off Lara Croft typeface (which was supposed to separate the Lara Croft brand from the Tomb Raider brand) and has applied it to the Tomb Raider logo, choosing not to use the current Tomb Raider logo that is applied on Just About Everything Everywhere. Not that it really matters, other than to annoy the obsessive marketer in me.

Deductions from this, then – the game could have echoes of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, as well as the original Tomb Raider and its 2007 remake. It does, however, appear to be distancing itself from the modern Crystal Dynamics trilogy and, alas, the ill-fated Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. Aww.

Moreover, for those of you who enjoy living the life of a real-world tomb raider, Square Enix has unleashed another puzzle on its Facebook page, promising another “exciting announcement” for those shrewd enough to unlock its secrets. I’m not one of those people, but apparently deciphering the code reveals the location of… something. I would be “spoiling it” if I told you what I knew. Yes. That’s why I’m saying nothing. Not that I don’t know. No, no no no…
